Four sets of twins make for a remarkable stretch at Northbay Health Medical Center

Four sets of twins. Eight babies. All arriving in just over a month at Northbay Health Medical Center.

The story caught the attention of CBS Sacramento after our Communications team captured footage of the families and care teams and shared it with the station. For our physicians and nurses, caring for twins is familiar work. Seeing four sets in such a short span, however, is something special. As Dr. Elena Minakova shared in the story, it’s highly unusual for a 16-bed NICU.

Dr. Brian Montenegro explained that twins often arrive early simply because space gets tight with more than one baby on the way. That’s where our NICU team shines, giving the smallest patients the specialized support they need from their very first moments.

Corrina Panganiban, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, said the experience has left a lasting impression on the team.

“Welcoming four sets of twins in just over a month is an extraordinary occurrence, and it’s been especially memorable for our Labor and Delivery and NICU teams. Each family’s experience is unique, and we’re proud to support them with the specialized care and attention they need during such an important time in their lives.

“For families expecting babies who may need extra support, having access to NICU care right here in the region can make a meaningful difference. We’re grateful that these families trusted Northbay Health to care for them and their babies, and we’re proud of the dedication our teams bring to caring for every newborn and family who comes through our doors.”

The parents featured in the story shared plenty of surprise and laughter, along with deep gratitude. For one family, the twins arrived after a long road to parenthood, making the moment even more meaningful.

To every team member who helped welcome these eight babies: thank you.
